An ample amount of exposure to social interactions and experiences helps students have better mental health overall. Surviving in the STEM field is a challenge that one person cannot face alone. There were some students who dropped out due to a lack of support for their emotional and mental health, which is mostly fostered by social interactions among significant others. Emotional support is a vital need in the inevitable draining situations that a student encounters in school. Being around others allows students to fully function as children, teenagers, and adults, which molds their character as they are exposed to various perspectives from peers who might have a different worldview from theirs. Significant others serve as a motivator for them to keep going while also being a shoulder for them to lean on when things go tough. Building interpersonal skills is beneficial for the development of students' well-being and success in the future, as it boosts their confidence and helps them improve their emotional and mental well-being.
Overcome your shyness and do not hesitate to be more active in
socializing.
Do not limit yourself to having casual and fun interactions with
the people around you. You can participate in school activities
that involve teamwork to help you meet new people, build
relationships, and develop your interpersonal skills.
Become the buddy you want to have.
Each of you needs a support system throughout this stage of your
life. Just as they shed light on your life, so should you. As the
proverb says: “Do unto others what you would have others do unto
you".
Choose the perfect company for yourself.
One of the essential requirements at this stage of your life is
being around the right people who inspire you to be more and
better. Be amongst people who give you more inner strength and
provide you solace during your gloomy moments.
