School is not just a place that hones your academic talent, but it also enhances your other prowesses. This comes in the form of extracurricular activities, in which students get to choose a club or organization that is in line with their interests or talents. Joining clubs and organizations would be an excellent choice for incoming SHS students as it allows for more chances to enhance your skill, open new opportunities, and even discover new talents. You can also find new comrades and friends who align with your interests in these clubs, allowing you to expand your social network.

There are numerous clubs that may or may not be offered in your school, but take these steps in order to assess what clubs you may want to join:

  1. Think about your talents.
Extracurricular activities are a way to enhance your talents in specific fields. If you want to improve further, try to find a club that aligns with your talent (e.g. if you like debating, it would be a good decision to join the debate club).

  2. Think about things that already interest you.
We all have things that we feel an immense passion for in life, and perhaps the things that you like can be found in a club at your school. Even if you’re not talented in whatever you are passionate about, it would not hurt to try out because, in these extracurricular activities, you can still grow as a person and slowly get better at the things you like. (e.g. if you are interested in photography but are not as talented at it, it is still recommended that you join the photography club if you like it).

  3. Think about new things you would like to try out.
Life is all about leaving your bubble and trying out new things. Perhaps you would like to try something new for your senior high school life to shake things up a bit. This, too, is a good way of choosing a club as you can think about the things you could potentially enjoy even after your school life (e.g. you try out for the theater club despite not having any further experience or knowledge about it).

Some students may be uninterested in joining a club and wish not to join any extracurriculars but as SHS graduates, we heavily express that extracurriculars are still extremely important as they can build your talents, and new relationships, and you can even discover the side of yourself that you never found. Try to join even just one club that sparks your interest and live your SHS life to the fullest before college!
